About Karen

Karen Erger is an Account Executive with Holmes Murphy & Associates.  She has spent most of her career helping architects, engineers, lawyers, and accountants avoid professional liability claims and manage their insurance.  Karen graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Chicago in 1984 and from the University of Chicago Law School in 1990.  As an attorney, her practice was focused on defending malpractice cases against architects and engineers, and she served as panel counsel for many major insurance carriers.  Erger left private practice for a position as a claim supervisor for one of the major writers of professional liability insurance for architects and engineers.  Thereafter, she served as Vice President and Director of Loss Prevention and Marketing for ISBA Mutual, the lawyers' malpractice insurance company endorsed by the Illinois State Bar Association.

Erger has served as Professional Affiliate Director of AIA Chicago.  She is a member of the Iowa Bar and the Illinois Bar, and of the American Bar Association Forum on the Construction Industry.  She writes a bimonthly column on risk management and legal ethics in the Illinois Bar Journal.
